Should I Take Bad Omens from Things Happening to Me?

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: Assalamu alaykum

I am getting marry soon. But these days I see strange things. Is it a bad omen?

Answer:  Walaikum assalam,

I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.

The Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him & his folk) forbade taking bad omens from things.

The greatest spiritual protections in our religion are:
(1) renewing one’s commitment to the five daily prayers, and to strive for presence of heart in them;
(2) leaving sins, both open and hidden—including busying oneself with watching and listening to sinful modes of entertainment; and
(3) seeking Allah’s protection through reciting the 3 Qul, Ayat al-Kursi, and the Fatiha, regularly.
