Manners of Visiting the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him)

Answered by Shaykh Faraz A. Khan

Question: I will inshallah be going for umrah and ziyara. When i go to the blessed grave of RasoolAllah s.a.w how do i make tawassul the sunnah way? Can I ask the Prophet s.a.w directly to make dua for me? Eg: ya rasool, pray to our rab for me that I etc.  Or should I use the dua in the hadith of the blind man?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health states.

Both ways are fine and good. Our masters have taught us that when we visit the Beloved Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), we should have in our hearts as if we are visiting him in life, since we know from authentic hadiths that he (peace and blessings be upon him) is alive in his grave, in the barzakh realm.

If you able to get your hands on the Hanafi fiqh manual Ascent to Felicity, Appendix 2 is a translation of Imam Mawsili’s beautiful section on visiting the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), along with duas and etiquette. May Allah accept your umra, and please keep us in your duas.

And Allah knows best.
wassalam
