How Does One Stay Covered While Showering?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: 1- I understand that one of the adaabs of going to the toilet is maintaining the awra and that during ghusl one should not uncover themselves entirely.

I have tried many times to keep on something which covers my awrah but it is proving to be an impossible task. When one needs to shave their public hair or remove najasa (filth) one needs to freely wash that area without fear of contaminating what he is wearing. I’m just confused how people are able to achieve this.

2: Second question is regarding istiqama. Is there any prophetic duas which the prophet AS recited or taught the sahabahs for consistency in ibadah

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are well, insha’Allah.

[1] It is permitted to uncover one’s nakedness (`awrah) when there is need – such as relieving oneself, showering or changing clothes. However, even in such situations, it is recommended to minimize the exposure to the extent possible.

As for covering whilst showering, one can use a loose pair of shorts.

[2] One of the prophetic supplications that one can use: ‘O Controller of hearts! Make my heart firm on Your Din.’ [Tirmidhi]

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوْب ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِىْ عَلٰى دِيْنِكَ
